About the clinical code table

The clinical code table contains:

  • the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) codes
  • the Australian Classification of Health Interventions (ACHI) codes
  • 24 fields for each code.

The clinical code table does not contain:

  • ICD-10-AM/ACHI guidelines or conventions, for example excludes or includes notes
  • any other text related to the code apart from the official full text descriptor.

All fields in the clinical code table are listed by their actual column name and description. There has been no change to the:

  • structure of the table
  • actual naming of the fields
  • intended meaning of the field attributes.

NMDS clinical code table fields

The clinical code table field values are used as edit checks during the NMDS load process. Clinical codes that do not meet one or more of the edit checks will cause the event record to be rejected with a warning or error message.

The definitions for each of the 24 fields are specified in the NMDS clinical code table fields.
